Why Mossel Bay?

In December of 2007 as a young married couple we moved to Mossel Bay, South Africa. After having completing a church planting course at Hatfield Church in Pretoria, SA we felt God calling us to move to Mossel Bay as part of a team to plant a church in this city. When we moved here it was just us and two other couples meeting together and praying for the city.

Over the past years God, in His great mercy, has allowed a church to be established in this town that is alive, thriving and reaching out to it’s community. Word & Life Ministries just celebrated its 6th official birthday August 1, 2011.

In the time that we have been here many things have changed. We have had two children, the church has grown, and we have established not only a church but a home and a life here. As things have changed our roles have also changed. We have given over many of our previous responsibilities in the church to new leaders from within the church. We are still members of the pastoral team and very involved in various church activities but have been given the freedom to spend most of our time reaching out to the community. This is our heart and our passion.

What Are We  Doing:

Some of the things that we are involved in are:

  • outreach & evangelism
  • we are running a small group
  • discipleship – we are involved in 1 on 1 relationships with people, encouraging them to grow in their faith and be who God has called them to be.
  • we are working together in a team – this involves team prayer and meetings as well as standing with one another and encouraging one another.
  • We are, with the team, organizing and running a Sunday service every week at 9:30am.
  • Josh and Abby are both involved with the worship and sound teams.
  • Growing Hope – this is our baby. We are reaching out to the community, especially those with HIV/AIDS, providing people with all they need, seedlings and fertilizer as well as the knowledge of how to grow vegetables for themselves and their families. Check out the What is the Growing Hope Page.

We are here not only to serve the people of Mossel Bay but also to serve the South Africans that we are working with. These people have left their own homes to see the Kingdom of God established in Mossel Bay. It is a privilege to serve with them.
