the unknown

At the Gate of the Year

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year
‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’

And he replied,
‘Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way!’

So I went forth and finding the Hand of God
Trod gladly into the night
He led me towards the hills
And the breaking of day in the lone east.

So heart be still!
What need our human life to know
If God hath comprehension?

In all the dizzy strife of things
Both high and low,
God hideth his intention.”

a quick trip to our nations capital

This past weekend we had so much fun spending two nights in Washington D.C. We stayed in a hotel about two blocks from the Capital Building. It was freezing cold but we had a great time. We went with Abby’s mom and her friend Dee. Noah had an amazing time since going on walks is one of his favorite things to do. We walked all over the national mall. We went to the National Aquarium which he really loved and he almost had a heart attack when he saw all the animals in the Museum of Natural History. It was so amazing to see all that there is to learn. We also saw a demonstration on rubber band and radio controlled airplanes and some pretty amazing lego towers at the National Building Museum. It was such a reminder of how beautiful and rich this country really is. To have all that amazing art and history so close. We needed so much more time. In two days we hardly scratched the surface.

Here is a picture of us bundled up against the freezing cold wind as we trudged across in front of the Capital Building.

it was freezing!!!

don’t rush

as i was literally speed-reading through my quite time i came across this:

“Rush is wrong every time, there is always plenty of time to worship God… We have to pitch our tents where we shall always have quiet times with God, however noisy our times with the world may be.”

confrontation…

South Africa we miss you.

It is amazing how a place can get into your heart. I guess it should be no surprise that after spending almost four years in a country you turn around and find that it has slowly yet steadily crept in and taken residence in your heart. We are in America, in our home town and we love it here. It will always be our home. But we are finding that we have two homes. One here with our families in the place where we grew up and one thousands of miles away. Where our home is, where our children were born, where our beautiful and growing church family is. One where people are hungry for the gospel and in desperate need of the truth and hope that we have in Christ Jesus. Both are home and both are beautiful and special to us and it will always be that way. “It’s ok to love both.” someone once told us and we are finding that to be true. How blessed we are to have two homes.
